Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology

Environmental biology is treated as a branch of ecology, the science of how animals, plants and microorganisms relate to one another and to the non-living parts of their surroundings, for instance the air, soil and water. It also covers the effects of human activity on living things and on the wider environment. Specialists in the field ask how natural systems work, how organisms interact with each other and their habitats, and how environmental problems connect with health, social, political and economic factors. The Bachelor of Science in this subject was first introduced at Sultan Qaboos University in 1996. Students study the foundational sciences covering animals, plants and microorganisms, together with varied environments including deserts and fresh and salt water. Practical courses cover biodiversity conservation, waste management, pollution, toxicology and the assessment of environmental impact.
