Program details

Overview

The MSc in Biology is a postgraduate degree offered by the College of Science at Sultan Qaboos University. It is a thesis-based programme: students first build subject knowledge through taught course work set out in an approved degree plan, then show they can plan, carry out and report on a research project. Students need a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 in their course work. The thesis stage involves a literature review, the research itself, analysis of the results, a written report and an oral defence. The work does not have to be original research; a fresh application of existing ideas is acceptable. A research problem is agreed with a supervisor, usually during the second semester. Thesis registration opens in the third semester, once at least 12 credits of course work are complete.
