Overview
Early Childhood Development is built around the Caribbean Vocational Qualification framework, leading to a CVQ Level I award rather than a conventional academic certificate. The regional CVQ competency standards for early-childhood work set the backbone, and learning is organised so that classroom instruction and supervised workplace placements reinforce each other throughout.
Assessment follows the competency-based model that CVQ awards require: students are judged on practical demonstrations and real-case performance, such as supporting play-based learning, tracking child development, and managing nutrition and safety in a childcare setting, rather than on written examinations alone. Field-work placements run in nearly every semester to keep that evaluation grounded in an actual early-years setting.
Entry is open to candidates through an Assessment of Prior Learning route or with at least three CSEC subject passes, and all applicants go through an interview as part of admission.
