The Master's in prehistoric archaeology covers prehistory with a particular focus on Europe and Africa, alongside ethnoarchaeology, theoretical archaeology, palaeoanthropology and archaeozoology. The programme maintains close links with biology and Earth and environmental sciences. Taking part in archaeological excavations is a major part of the course, and methods and analytical techniques are taught so that theory and practice stay closely connected.
The programme lasts four semesters and totals 120 ECTS credits. Compulsory courses include theoretical archaeology, ethnoarchaeology, archaeozoology, palaeoanthropology and excavation fieldwork. Students choose restricted-choice courses on the European Neolithic, the Bronze and Iron Ages of Europe, and the Palaeolithic and Neolithic of Africa, plus options agreed with their thesis supervisor. Teaching is in French and English.
