Program details

Overview

This MRes provides research training in philosophy beyond master's level and lays groundwork for a doctoral project of one's own. Students join an internationally strong research community and engage with philosophers working across the discipline's main fields. Individual feedback and supervision accompany essays and the final dissertation, and learners pursue a research question of genuine personal interest. Admission involves an upper second-class philosophy degree or a philosophy master's, a writing sample and a short research proposal. Teaching is on campus over one year full-time or two years part-time, and it suits self-directed students aiming for further philosophical research. Seminars build a habit of careful argument that serves both academic and wider professional goals.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: At least a high upper second-class honours degree (2:1) in philosophy or equivalent, or an MA in philosophy at Merit level or above, and a sample of written work prior to interview, in addition to a research proposal of up to 1000 words.
