Biological Sciences (BBSRC DTP)

The Cambridge Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership provides a fully funded four-year PhD designed to create highly capable and employable scientists. Students draw on a wide network of 23 University departments and institutes and three partner institutes, in areas that match BBSRC's strategic priorities. Two routes are available. Targeted studentships include two rotations of ten weeks each in separate laboratories before the doctorate begins, plus a twelve-week internship. Industrial CASE students instead spend between three and eighteen months with a partner company. Training covers programming, statistics, public engagement, ethics and scientific writing, and the thesis is due at the close of year four. Arrangements for part-time enrolment depend on the project, so candidates should discuss them with a supervisor in advance. Students build a network of researchers across these partner institutions throughout the programme.
