Program details

Overview

The PhD in Chemistry is a research degree that can be taken full-time or part-time within the Department of Chemistry. Students are integrated into the research culture by joining a group supervised by one of the academic staff, working in one of the department's research areas. Part-time study is considered case by case, so candidates should discuss it with a proposed supervisor first. The course develops research skills and specialist knowledge through supervised laboratory or theoretical work, with the thesis as the principal output. Part-time candidates must live close enough to Cambridge to meet attendance requirements. The degree provides the research experience needed for further scientific work.
