Overview

The Cultural Anthropology certificate builds cultural competency and responsiveness for diverse, globally connected workplaces and communities. It uses anthropological theory to show how culture at local through global levels shapes values and beliefs. The certificate totals 18 credits and requires a 2.25 grade point average. Students take cultural anthropology and qualitative research methods, two electives on topics such as world religions or culture and film, and two further electives drawn from communication, geography and Indigenous studies. Employers in business, schooling, health care and social services value this competency, and the certificate adds tools of applied anthropology for human-centered research. Students can combine the credential with a major in nearly any field. Interested applicants can review the department pages for faculty, advising details and the full list of required courses in the current university catalog.
