This Criminal Justice degree comes with four emphases, Corrections, Police Science, Tribal Justice and Victimology, so students can target different careers.
Corrections covers supervision, reentry, rehabilitation and report writing, and leads toward roles such as probation or parole officer. Police Science covers the academic side of Minnesota peace officer licensing, though a separate skills program from outside providers is also required. Tribal Justice, developed with Indigenous Studies, examines justice practices in American Indian contexts.
The Victimology emphasis is described through the Sociology and Communication Studies department. Students choose the emphasis that matches the profession they want to enter, and the department supports internships and a student club. Interested applicants can review the department pages for faculty, advising details and the full list of required courses in the current university catalog.
