PhD in Genetics

This doctoral program in Graduate Medical Sciences, part of the Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine, trains students to use two complementary styles of inquiry in biomedical research: testing specific genetic hypotheses and generating new ideas from genome-scale data. Training also covers professional conduct. Students learn to behave ethically within the scientific community, explain ideas clearly, judge published work critically, mentor colleagues and advance equity in their activities. By the time they graduate, students should have completed an original body of work that shows independent, critical thought and have demonstrated the skills needed to benefit society. Doctoral students work closely with faculty advisors throughout, moving from structured coursework toward independent scholarship and a final dissertation. Prospective applicants should consult the program page and the relevant school admissions pages for current requirements, deadlines and tuition, since those details are not given on the program page.
