Overview
The School Counseling program is a master's offering in the School of Behavioral & Health Studies. It prepares graduates to support students from kindergarten through grade 12 on academics, emotional and social wellbeing, and preparing for work, collaborating with individuals, small groups, classrooms, colleagues, and parents.
Coursework fulfils New York's educational conditions for professional school counselor certification, and graduates are generally eligible for first-time certification elsewhere. Students take a common set of counseling classes alongside peers in clinical mental health counseling, practice skills in labs, and complete an internship. Finishing takes at minimum five semesters. National accreditation of both counseling tracks adds recognition and eases licensing in other states. Graduates are ready to support young people in school settings across many communities.
