This training suits people who want to work on the engines and mechanical systems that move freight and passengers. The focus is diesel power in trucks, buses, and large construction or farm machines, from routine service through repair of faults in the engine and its supporting equipment. Classes follow what employers expect from entry-level technicians, and instructors bring experience from working shops rather than only from the classroom. Much of the learning happens through practice on real equipment, which helps students connect theory to the tasks they will face on the job. Students can earn a diploma in diesel equipment technology or choose a shorter technical certificate. Certificate options center on electrical and electronic systems, engine service, truck maintenance, and heavy diesel service, so someone can concentrate on a single area. The program is based at the North Metro campus, where faculty advisors and academic advisors help with planning a course sequence and starting in either spring or fall.
