Program details

Overview

Fire Service Technology prepares students for entry-level work as a firefighter and emergency medical technician. The curriculum follows National Fire Protection Association standards for the first two firefighter levels. Before hands-on fire training, students must pass a cadet fitness evaluation, submit a state training application that screens for age, convictions and substance issues, supply a physician-completed physical form and show earlier firefighting or EMS credentials. Graduates receive an AAS credential and may continue at the University of Cincinnati toward a bachelor's. Accreditation comes from the state's public safety department, through its emergency medical services division. The program code is FST. Related options include the Fire Service Leadership program and the Fire Service Certificate. Graduates who complete an optional extra set of classes can transfer to the University of Cincinnati. Cincinnati State Technical and Community College publishes the full semester-by-semester course plan on the program page, along with inquiry and application links for prospective students.
