AA/AS in Fire Protection

The Fire Science Technology degree prepares students to compete for jobs and promotions with paid and volunteer fire departments and emergency responders. It follows a national curriculum model that stresses leadership and safety in fire protection. The program blends technical fire studies with courses in math, English, physical science and the liberal arts. One course in fire prevention and code enforcement satisfies education standards of the state's fire safety division for the Fire Inspector license, and a second course satisfies them for the Fire Official license. Students planning a career in code enforcement should confirm any further certification requirements directly with the state division. Graduates are positioned to seek entry-level or advancement opportunities within fire departments and related emergency agencies, with an Associate in Applied Science as their credential.
