PhD in Applied Mathematics

This on-campus doctoral program prepares students to carry out independent investigations in mathematics and statistics that address engineering, the physical sciences and data-rich fields. Candidates progress from using established techniques toward creating original approaches and theory. Training spans modeling, probability, inference and numerical methods. Because the curriculum is adaptable, each student can shape coursework around a chosen research direction while still securing strong core foundations. Applicants typically hold a bachelor's or master's degree. The program sits in the Applied Mathematics and Statistics department at Colorado School of Mines, and graduates are meant to produce results that hold up under scrutiny in settings where systems are complex and data are abundant. Details on admission deadlines and the full curriculum are available from the program page and the admissions team.
