BA/BS in Classical and Ancient Studies

The classical education program combines a classical studies major with classical pedagogy for students who want to teach. It is an interdisciplinary course of study rooted in the liberal arts tradition and in the heritage of the Lutheran church, with a focus on helping students learn to reason and to teach. Students may add extra study in history, English or a foreign language to form a main area of teaching responsibility. Members of the Missouri Synod church body who finish all requirements receive certification, and may be eligible for a called position and placement on the synod's roster with the title of commissioned minister for teaching. Sample careers include elementary school teacher, health educator and guidance counselor. The program also reflects Concordia's belief that learning to think well is more valuable than ever when information is available instantly, and it trains students to pass that skill on.
