BA/BS in Classics and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics

Students in this major approach antiquity by learning its languages and reading what its writers produced. The study helps make sense of the literary allusions, artworks and myths that recur throughout Western culture. Coursework centers on Greek or Latin, and students practice analytical and creative thinking while learning to respond thoughtfully to texts in the language they have chosen. Many graduates go on to study law or the health sciences. The major itself comprises 27 credit hours, taken alongside the university core. In the senior year, students compose original writing in an ancient tongue and present a thesis before an audience. Those who prefer a lighter commitment can pursue a minor in either Greek or Latin.
