The Master of Science in Pure Mathematics gives students demanding training in the subject and prepares them to enter a doctoral program or teach mathematics in a college setting. It is an evening program based at the Lincoln Park campus.
Students complete forty-eight quarter hours of graduate mathematics, drawing on required core courses and a chosen concentration. They must also pass written exams in two areas, algebra and analysis, and may take thesis research credit.
Pacing is adjustable. A load of two courses each quarter finishes in two academic years, whereas three courses each quarter allows completion in four quarters. Graduates should be able to construct formal proofs, read research-level mathematical writing and express ideas using correct notation and terminology. Prospective students can review the full requirements and course lists on the program's catalog page at DePaul University.
