AA/AS in Information Science/Studies

Computer Information Systems at Genesee Community College is an Associate in Applied Science program that introduces students to software development. Learners study how programmers turn designs into working instructions, working in languages like C++ and Java, and practice testing, debugging and extending existing programs. The curriculum also covers computer hardware, operating systems, application software, systems analysis and database design, along with written and verbal communication for working with clients and colleagues. The college presents the sequence as the opening half of a bachelor's degree in the field, backed by the college's microcomputer and mainframe labs. Graduates can move into entry-level computing roles or continue toward a four-year degree in areas including information management, data administration, telecom or broader technology study, using SUNY transfer pathways.
