BA/BS in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution

Peace studies is an interdisciplinary program that treats differences as enriching and conflict as a chance to grow. It develops skills in listening, dialogue, mediation and negotiation, and considers how rights and responsibilities balance, along with justice and nonviolent philosophy. Students study peace and conflict theory as it applies to historical and current conflicts worldwide, looking at how individuals and communities experience violence and its opposite. The emphasis is on alternatives to violent conflict and on practical ways of acting in the world. Students can look into study abroad through brief faculty-led courses abroad or full-semester exchanges, explore internships for credit, and use career resources for job searches and graduate or professional school applications. Faculty advisors and the department chair act as points of contact for prospective students, and the college invites visitors to share their interests so it can send relevant information.
