Overview
The Community and Public Health certificate prepares people to educate, motivate and empower clients as community health workers. Working under licensed professionals, they act as a link joining clients to the health care system, steering community members toward services and supporting them through care.
Regional health organizations have identified a need for trained workers in this role. The curriculum draws on health care delivery, insurance, human services, health literacy and long-term illness.
The certificate is aimed mainly at students who already have a health care background and related coursework; those with little experience can pursue the Community and Public Health A.S. instead. The Cardiorespiratory and Emergency Medicine Department offers it. Students can turn to the college's career and transfer office for guidance on career options and transfer counseling, and the Admissions Office handles enrollment questions about the program.
