Program details

Overview

The associate degree in physics is built around a core of physics, calculus and chemistry, and it suits students who plan to continue toward a four-year physics or engineering program. The required courses include two semesters of general chemistry with labs, three semesters of calculus, and two semesters of engineering physics with laboratories. Because the plan does not fill every available credit, students choose electives to reach the university minimum of 60 credits for an associate degree. General education objectives follow the Bachelor of Science pattern, and the number of general education credits can vary with a student's results on placement or proficiency tests in English, foreign languages and mathematics. Students are directed to the ISU degree requirements, the general education listing and the Major Academic Plan when planning each semester's schedule.
