AA/AS in Astronomy and Astrophysics

The astronomy major at Cabrillo College looks at our planetary neighborhood, our home galaxy and the cosmos beyond, and at the physics behind them. It belongs to the college's science and math division. Courses range over scientific method, planetary and climate studies, the possibility of life elsewhere, how stars live and die, the formation of the Milky Way and the origin of the cosmos, and show how physical laws help explain why the universe supports life. The department also runs weekend field trip courses that carry elective credit for the California State University system. Students and visitors can use the campus observatory and request planetarium shows for groups.
