The Astronomy Associate in Science prepares students to transfer to a CSU or UC campus and pursue a bachelor's degree in astronomy, astrophysics or physics. It can also lead toward research internships and entry-level work in observatory and planetarium operations. The program rests on a core of astronomy and physical science courses, and the department recommends that majors also complete programming, calculus and linear algebra courses before transferring. The degree offers a solid foundation for students who intend to pursue an advanced degree later. In the college catalog this program is listed as eligible for financial aid. Orange Coast College publishes the requirements in its 2026-2027 academic catalog, which sets out the required courses, the intended learning outcomes and a suggested sequence of study.
