AA/AS in Fire Protection

The Associate of Arts in Fire Science is designed for people pursuing entry-level careers in municipal or wildland fire service. Students gain broad working knowledge of how fire departments are organized and run, how equipment is used correctly, which tactics and strategies apply to firefighting, and which specialized skills and management methods matter. The program stresses critical thinking when examining current fire service issues and builds written and spoken communication. Its structure follows the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education model from the National Fire Academy, part of the United States Fire Administration. A certificate of achievement in Fire Science is offered alongside the degree, and related options include the fire academy and emergency medical technician training. The course catalog and program map describe requirements, with financial aid and scholarships also listed.
