MA/MS in Teacher Education and Professional Development, Specific Levels and Methods

This teaching master's is an alternative route to teacher certification for college graduates whose degrees are in liberal arts, fine arts or professional fields. It supplies the education coursework and classroom placements, with student teaching, that a candidate needs to teach a particular subject. Applicants need a four-year degree from an accredited school, and they generally review a transcript analysis before applying through the graduate admissions process. Details on required courses, culminating experiences and admission procedures are listed in the graduate catalog. Prospective students should review those sections, contact the program coordinator with questions about fit and timing, and submit the application through the graduate admissions office before beginning coursework. Faculty advisors can help students fit the program around work and family schedules, and program staff can explain how the requirements apply to individual situations.
