Overview

Anthropology at Mercer is described as a broad, whole-person look at human life. The degree gives students a grounding in methods and theory for understanding cultural diversity, across the four subfields of cultural, linguistic, and biological anthropology plus archaeology. The Bachelor of Arts is housed in the international and global studies department on the Macon campus. The curriculum leans toward applied and activist approaches, and faculty specialize in cultural anthropology. Students conduct research on meaningful topics, learn in small classes, and apply what they know in real situations. It can be added as a second major alongside biology, French, Spanish, or international affairs, and it suits pre-health students who prefer a social scientific angle. Small classes allow close contact between students and professors throughout the degree.
