Cert in Electrical and Power Transmission Installers

Intended for future utility line workers, this diploma is offered through the Mequon Campus at a We Energies facility on West North Avenue in Milwaukee. It teaches the fundamentals expected at the start of a career installing and maintaining power lines. Completing the 30 credits does not equal an apprenticeship, but it can open doors at certain utilities, contractors and related trades, and some students treat it as preparation for formal apprenticeship. Cable installation for electricians is another job path. Applicants should be physically strong, coordinated, and unafraid of climbing, with normal color vision. Being able to qualify for a commercial driver license is advised. Students begin in August and finish in two semesters. Prerequisites apply, and the college notes that course requirements may change, so students should check their academic plan.
