Cert in Ground Transportation

A brief eight-week course, this diploma prepares students for entry-level driving jobs, either local routes or long-haul. It focuses on safe operation, upkeep of the vehicle and handling a tractor-trailer, and students may be able to obtain a Class A commercial driver license. Training also introduces trucks fueled by compressed natural gas, which the page says produce fewer emissions and less noise than diesel ones. Skills such as driving forward and reversing are taught in the classroom, in labs, on a closed range and on public roads, along with online materials. Entry requires a petition with special admission conditions, explained on a separate college page. The Oak Creek Campus offers many start dates throughout the year.
