MA/MS in Middle/Near Eastern and Semitic Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics

Administered through the Hagop Kevorkian Center, this master's degree reflects the center's founding aim of fostering interdisciplinary study of the Middle East today and helping the public understand the region better. Scholarship at the center covers history, politics, economics, religion, culture and language across a territory reaching from North Africa into Central Asia. The center also runs a joint master's with journalism, a concentration in museum studies, and workshops that bring regional content to teachers throughout the New York area. This master's stands apart from the doctorate given by the Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, though the two units cooperate. Thirty-two credits are required, and each of the three available concentrations pushes the total higher.
