MA/MS in Romance Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics

Boston University's master's in French Language & Literature helps students acquire detailed knowledge of the French and Francophone literary tradition, its development and landmark works, as well as the scholarly methods used in researching the field. Some graduates go on to doctoral work in literature. Others work in teaching or in jobs that value French, including law, public health, development and commerce. Applicants must already be advanced speakers of French, and the department website explains which supporting documents to submit with an application. Students aim for near-native command of French, professional-level writing and research, and readiness to teach literary works and concepts in upper secondary schools or as university language instructors. The degree requires a set of courses at the graduate level, with a seminar in each term, and a language requirement also applies.
