Program details

Overview

The graduate programs in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry include an M.S. track for students who want research experience across traditional and interdisciplinary chemistry. Students work closely with faculty mentors on topics ranging from new pharmaceuticals to sustainable energy and biotechnology, in labs with modern equipment and a low student-to-faculty ratio. One option is an M.S. with educator licensure, designed for people with a chemistry or related bachelor's degree who want to teach high school chemistry and physical sciences in Illinois. It ends with full-time student teaching and generally takes two to three years. No teaching experience is required. An Industrial Chemistry specialization lets scientists with a B.S. complete research projects connected to their workplace.
