This graduate program offers a flexible, rigorous study of communication theory, inquiry techniques and hands-on application. It is intended for students with many academic backgrounds, who shape their studies together with a faculty advisor.
Students can concentrate on areas such as journalism, media studies, interpersonal and organizational communication, persuasion, or rhetoric and public speaking. The degree meets in person, allows part-time or full-time enrollment and admits students in fall or spring.
A teaching assistantship gives graduate students a chance to build instructional skills with support from the department. One recent graduate credited the supportive faculty and the assistantship with preparing her for doctoral study in media and cinema. Prospective students can request more information, visit the campus and speak with program staff about how the degree fits their goals. Financial support such as assistantships and scholarships may be available, and the Graduate School handles the formal application and admission decisions.
