BA/BS in Chemistry

Chemistry majors at Northern Illinois University learn what substances are made of and how they join together and change. The Bachelor of Science curriculum is designed for graduates heading into teaching, laboratory research or the creation of materials and products that make daily life better. An analytical laboratory on campus lets students operate spectrometers and other advanced instruments, giving them familiarity with the equipment used in professional work. People trained in chemistry often find positions in manufacturing, farming and agriculture, schools and colleges, and government agencies. First-year applicants are not asked for admission test scores, and everyone who applies is automatically reviewed for a merit scholarship that renews each year. Students who plan to transfer from another institution can check how their previously earned credits would count toward the degree.
