AA/AS in Engineering, General

Oakton's engineering program is designed for students who plan to finish a bachelor's degree at another institution. The college was the first community college in Illinois approved to grant the Associate in Engineering Science, and an engineering pre-major is available too. Students follow a pre-engineering curriculum with coursework in mathematics, chemistry, computing and engineering, taught in small classes by faculty who give personal attention. Transfer partners set aside places for Oakton engineering students. Faculty have developed online courses, so the experience is intended to be equivalent whether a student studies on campus or remotely. The program belongs to the college's STEM center, which provides additional resources for students. Oakton College is a community college serving the Chicago area, and students are encouraged to meet an advisor to plan courses around their goals and schedules. Credentials like this one can act as a stepping stone toward longer certificates or an associate degree, so earlier coursework may remain useful if plans change.
