BA/BS in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology

The meteorology major examines how the atmosphere changes over both short and long periods. Coursework emphasizes both short-term forecasting and long-term climate patterns. Students combine classroom study with fieldwork and internships, preparing for weather-related careers or graduate school. Small class sizes allow faculty to tailor instruction to each student. Coursework in physics and mathematics provides the foundation for following new developments in the field. Students work in the Wick Science Building and the ISELF facility, where research includes virtual and augmented reality projects. A student chapter of the American Meteorological Society offers networking and peer research. Graduates pursue forecasting, emergency management, broadcast meteorology, and research roles, or continue into graduate study. Community outreach events, including weather safety education, give students hands-on public engagement.
