Overview

The Communications major at Simmons teaches students to build messages and stories for different audiences, cultures, and media channels. It is part of the Gwen Ifill School and offers three concentrations: journalism, design, and integrated media. All majors start with an introductory core and technology skills courses, then move into a chosen concentration, additional communications electives outside it, and an independent learning capstone. Joint majors with related departments are available for students who want a blended path. Internships in Boston and beyond are part of the experience, and recent students have worked at newsrooms, medical institutions, colleges, and arts organizations. Graduates go on to work as designers, reporters, social media managers, analysts, and strategists, and the program draws on shared work across several media disciplines.
