Program details

Overview

The Interdisciplinary Studies Diploma Program is a postgraduate offering at Smith that grew out of the long-running American Studies Diploma Program. Since 2018 it has been broadened and now sits within the Lewis Global Studies Center in Wright Hall. It welcomes postgraduate students and some advanced undergraduates from arts, humanities, social science and STEM backgrounds. Diploma students can enroll in the full range of Smith courses and in courses at the Five College partners: Mount Holyoke, Amherst, Hampshire and UMass Amherst. Graduate tuition is billed by semester according to enrolled credits, and students enrolled in fewer than eight credits pay per credit, with no institutional aid. Full-load students taking sixteen credits per semester receive a scholarship that covers tuition.
