AA/AS in Culinary Arts and Related Services

Culinary Arts at South Plains College trains people who want to work in kitchens, bakeshops and food service. The Associate of Applied Science sits alongside two shorter certificates, so a learner can begin with core kitchen skills and later continue toward the full degree. Coursework covers cooking methods, baking and pastry, menu planning with a nutrition angle, sanitation, guest service and the running of kitchens and restaurants. Graduates look toward restaurants, hotels and caterers, and some plan to open their own food businesses. The program is offered near Lubbock, Texas. Its web page invites prospective students to explore the curriculum and ask the college for further information about enrolling. Options range from short skills certificates to the two-year degree, which suits both career changers and recent graduates.
