AA/AS in Fire Protection

Fire Technology at South Plains College prepares students for careers in firefighting, wildland response and fire officer positions. Training blends classroom lessons, scenario drills and physical conditioning, and it meets the standards of the Texas fire protection commission. The program is built in tiers. A basic academy certificate comes first, followed by an advanced certificate that can emphasize emergency medicine or higher-level fire service skills. The Associate of Applied Science layers general education on top of that certification training and prepares graduates to move toward supervisory work such as inspection. Courses carry IFSAC approval. Active and volunteer firefighters may be eligible for tuition exemptions under state law, and seats in the basic academy are limited, so early application is advised.
