Overview

Biology at St. Philip's College is a pre-major for students heading toward further study in animal, plant, medical, and other life-science fields. The Natural Sciences, Kinesiology, Engineering and Mathematics department offers courses from introductory biology to genetics, microbiology, anatomy, and physiology. The department pays attention to the needs of transfer students and tries to arrange course substitutions where it can. Several instructors run research projects during the regular semesters and the summer, and faculty also organize community engagement activities that connect classroom learning to real settings. Students can use a tutoring and study lab on the science building's upper level, known as the Byrd Sanctuary. Online syllabi for biology courses are linked from the page. Students are encouraged to review their transfer institution's expectations early so their biology coursework carries over smoothly.
