PGCert in Literature

The Advanced Certificate in Children's Literature comes from the creative writing and literature group on the Southampton campus. The program emphasizes fiction, poetry and nonfiction while treating all forms of writing as relevant. A small core faculty teaches alongside part-time visiting writers whose assignments rotate across fall, spring and summer. Their range includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, scripts and children's writing. Students may take workshops in any genre, reflecting the view that writing beyond one's main interest informs it. The program is described in the Fall 2026 Graduate Catalog, which gives department contacts, admission rules and degree requirements. Applicants submit through the Graduate School, and should consult the program listing for current dates and contacts before they begin their application, since details can change between catalog editions.
