PGCert in Literature

This four-course certificate benefits teachers of literature in junior high, high school and two-year college settings. It can provide a focus within the English master's degree or serve as a stand-alone foundation. The program draws on faculty in the Department of English and World Languages. Required courses address teaching literature and literary thought, and students select courses from two of three areas: British, American and multicultural literature. Outcomes include knowledge of literary history, use of interpretive strategies and theories about culture, race, class, gender and sexual identity, and participation in the profession as scholars, teachers and writers. The credential can sit within the English master's degree or stand by itself for working teachers.
