Human services prepares students to advocate for others, including older adults, immigrants, veterans and people facing addiction, homelessness or mental health challenges. Students can concentrate on a specific population or on areas such as health or policy. Courses cover topics like human behavior within the social environment, and majors have gone on internships overseas, volunteered with housing charities and studied in South America. Graduates report using what they learned to help clients locate social service resources. The degree totals one hundred twenty credit hours and takes four years of full-time study. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and international students may apply. The program prepares graduates for roles such as counselor or case worker and helps them understand the wide range of populations that depend on human service workers.
