Mathematics

The Mathematics major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences can be taken as a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science. The two versions suit students with different goals. One option is intended for students who want a mathematical career or plan to teach mathematics in secondary school without pursuing graduate study. The other is aimed at students preparing for graduate work in mathematics, as well as others seeking a stronger theoretical foundation. Graduates take jobs in fields like statistics, actuarial work, modeling, cryptography and operations research, or continue to research-oriented graduate programs and professional schools. Students should review the current catalog page for the full required course list and the recommended sequence, and speak with an academic advisor early to plan each semester.
