BA/BS in International/Globalization Studies

International studies at Iowa takes a multidisciplinary approach to global issues and connections. Students complete core courses that introduce key concepts and practical skills, then choose from internationally focused classes in the social sciences, humanities and arts. Many students pair the major with another field, including business, journalism, anthropology, art, health sciences or a world language. They are encouraged to build intercultural skills through study abroad, local engagement with international communities, internships, service learning and research. A faculty mentor can supervise a senior project or an honors thesis. The flexible structure lets students tailor the degree, and graduates have found work in education, nonprofit and nongovernmental groups, commerce, public service, and interpreting or translation. Some graduates have earned honors including a Fulbright teaching assistantship in English.
