Cert in Sustainability Studies

The sustainability certificate introduces the practice of meeting present needs without limiting what future generations can do. Students study how human and environmental systems interact, with attention to environmental change and health, energy, climate and built spaces, culture and society, plus ethics, economics and public policy. The aim is to prepare effective leaders and agents of change for sustainability in whatever professional setting they choose. Coursework spans several disciplines and methods, reflected in a set of breadth electives, so students see how many disciplines the field draws upon. Students at the university may earn it unless they are simultaneously in a graduate or professional degree program. Each participant must declare their intent to pursue the certificate, and the General Catalog lists the admission and course requirements.
