BA/BS in Social Work

The undergraduate social work major introduces students to helping professions and the settings where social workers practice, from schools and hospitals to child and family services and community centers. It is housed in the School of Social Work and carries accreditation from the national social work education council. Students declare the major when they enter, then qualify for the professional core courses after finishing prerequisite work in social justice and social welfare, psychology and sociology. Practicum placements with local organizations provide field experience, and a student association supports community among undergraduates. Bachelor's students may continue to the MSW at Iowa on a faster timeline.
