PhD in Applied Mathematics

The University of Louisville offers the Doctor of Philosophy in Applied and Industrial Mathematics through its academic units. The doctorate pairs a rigorous mathematical and statistical core with electives focused on applications and a placement in industry, preparing graduates for teaching, research and industry careers. Coursework and degree requirements are laid out in the university's academic catalog, which students use to plan their studies with an advisor. The catalog entry lists the required courses and outlines how the program fits within the wider college or graduate school. Advisors help students sequence courses sensibly across terms and keep progress on schedule. Applicants should have undergraduate coursework equivalent to a mathematics major, including analysis or abstract algebra. Prospective students should consult the catalog and the responsible department for current details on application steps, deadlines and expectations, since requirements can change from one catalog year to the next.
