Environmental Design is an exploratory interdisciplinary bachelor's major, available as a BA or BS, that applies visual and spatial design abilities to sustainability challenges. It blends classes from several parts of the College of Design, including architecture, landscape design, interiors, planning, art, product design and preservation, and its sustainability focus sets it apart from other majors.
Five specializations are available, covering landscapes, technology for design, advocacy and resilience, eco-friendly buildings, and sustainable cities. Emphasis falls on data visualization, landscapes, sustainable materials and visual communication for environmental action. Double majors are an option.
Many graduates continue to master's study in design and planning disciplines, sometimes finishing sooner. Others join conservation groups, assessment firms or public agencies as planners, GIS technicians and design technicians.
